Smoked turkey, high heels and a concert

Thanksgiving break was so Great.

Jace was off early on Wednesday and then had the whole long weekend off with me and the kids.

I did NOT shop on black Friday... which means, of course, that I slept in - Every. Single. Day.

Bliss.

We had Thanksgiving with our friends, the VanLaninghams. There was 11 of us in all but we had enough food for 50. They own this freaking awesome smoker, in which they placed a whole turkey and let it cook for, probably, ever. Let me just say, i don't like turkey. But i LOVED this turkey. and i am forever ruined against all other turkey. This turkey melted in your mouth and was too tender to cut without shredding and the flavor was absolutely divine. And i really loved the company. It was just an easy, fun day. Seriously, best thanksgiving ever. That's it. no drama, no great stories. Just a really great day.

Syd is now the proud owner of some "high heels". *snort* they are probably all of 1/2 inch high. But she has worn them EVERYWHERE... shopping, to thanksgiving dinner, around the house, with her nightgown... she's not allowed to wear them to school, but she has worn them everywhere else. She has proclaimed herself so, so 'grown-up' and she can sashay her hips with the next top model. unfortunately, my oh-so-sophisticated little girl has also acquired quite the sassy mouth to go with those heels. She just makes me giggle. She suddenly has opinions about her hairstyle in the mornings, has issues with whatever outfit I laid out and goes through about 3 different pair of pants before finding a satisfactory option, making us late every day. Being a girl is rough. i can totally relate.

We took the kids to see the trans-siberian orchestra this year. Um, yeah, they are still so freaking amazing i can hardly stand it. My kids were entranced. They were amazed at the electric violin, the double electric guitar and the bi-level electric keyboards. Oh - and the lasers, lights, fireworks, fire and moving set. I knew my kids would love it - but they were so hypnotized by everything, they didn't move. And when it was over, Gavin asked, immediately, when we could go see them again. Sydney didn't stop talking the whole time - asking a gazillion questions about how everything worked. The lady in front of us kept turning around and giving us dirty looks... like we were at church or something and there weren't hundreds of people yelling and cheering. FOR REAL LADY? she's six and she's asking questions about all this cool stuff that is so new and exciting... unwad your panties and enjoy life a little more. Pfft.

so, yeah, i am LOVING this stage in our life, in which we get to introduce our kids to all this awesome stuff. and i get to sleep all night long and even past 7 o'clock on the weekends. and even, sometimes, we get to go on a date and NOT pay for a sitter because we just leave Gavin "in charge" of  the other two sleeping kiddos. And none of my children owns their own phone, is dating or driving.

It's like the nirvana of parenthood - this school-age kid thing. Yeah, we have struggles but they are still relatively small (compared to what i foresee in teenagers) yet i'm not wiping bums, blowing noses, breast-feeding, sleep-training or any of that other lovely stuff that comes with infants/toddlers.

Aaaah... Bliss.

And i'm enjoying (almost) every minute of it.
