Swim meets

I confess, thought they range anywhere from 4-6 hours, I kind of like swim meets.

We're about at the end of our first swim season and we've learned a lot. I never participated in club sports as a kid and the level of competition is fierce. Gavin is constantly beating his personal times but is nowhere near the top. Getting disqualified once during a meet is a given and to be expected. It's not for kids/parents who are looking for a fun afterschool activity or some exercise. It's tough. These kids are athletes and are in top physical condition at 8, 9, 10 years of age.

So... With all the demands, why do I like it? 'Cause something about the smell of chlorine, the pop of the buzzer, the splash of the water and the echoing cheers brings me home. It makes me feel so alive.

And this kid absolutely loves it. His coach remarked that she's never seen anyone swim and smile at the same time except for Gavin. He has made good, true friends. They build each other up, compete with each other, goof-off and workout together on a daily basis.

I love pushing my kids a little out of their comfort zones and watching them fly. It's an awesome feeling seeing your kids succeed, gain self-confidence and then push themselves even harder... And love it.
