My kids have fins and I love it

Gavin started swimming about a year ago.

I fell in love with it from day one. Part of it was so nostalgic.

But most of it was being able to watch him make goals, work hard and achieve those goals.

About a month ago, Syd and Aj joined the swim team.

It’s hard.

I know they are younger and it’s demanding of their time and energy but they wanted to do it. Their first meet is in a week. I would lie if I said I wasn’t nervous.

I am.

However, they have stopped complaining and it’s getting easier everyday. They are getting stronger. They are loving being able to manipulate their bodies and swim through water easily. Each of my children are good at different things and they love it for different reasons… but they still are all doing so well. I’m so proud of their attitudes.

Yesterday, she had black (the high school-level club team) and the red (the beginner club team) swim relays together. It was the most awesome experience for my kids. They got to race each other, cheer each other on and be cheered on by the biggest members of their team. They felt like, instead of just going to lessons everyday, that they were part of a TEAM that supports, loves and encourages each other – no matter how big, small, fast or slow.

I don’t know if my kids will swim competitively forever or if they will quit after the first year. But for now, they are learning amazing lessons about determination, hard work, self-discipline, teamwork and positive attitude that will follow them the rest of their lives. It’s been a phenomenal experience for all of us.

This is Coach Logan. He is just awesome. We lost him at the end of Short Course Season when he joined the Coast Guard. We all miss him – but admire him and wish him the best.

I love this last picture. It’s what being a team is all about. And that crazy-lady yelling in the background is Coach Shanda.

I cannot tell you how much I love her.

Like, walk over hot coals love her.

For real.
