It was pretty fun that Sydney got to celebrate her birthday on a national holiday. It was fun that Daddy was already home from work as well as all the neighborhood kids. And everyone was outside playing and having fun. it was a built-in party! Which is perfect, since i don't do birthday parties.
But alas, it came with a price.
it's impossible to find a birthday cake that isn't red, white or blue on a patriotic holiday. Which is really rough when you're a girl, turning six, your favorite color is pink and you already know exactly what you want that cake to look like but your mom tries to NOT make cakes because she's lazy and has no skills.
Don't worry - i'm not that mean.
i made her the cake of her dreams.
at least, that's what i hoped it would be. it was probably more like the cake of her nightmares...
BUT it had chocolate frosting and pink icing and it tasted really yummy so we'll forgive the presentation....
go ahead. you can laugh. i did.
but don't forget... she loved it and it TASTED good.
a whole stick of butter can correct about any inability to write straight... or legibly. =)
It really was a great day - she smiled a lot and laughed even more. She squealed at her presents, clapped in delight at the birthday song sung at the restaurant and licked every bit of scrumptious frosting off her fingers.
It was perfect.
first, there were presents. we opened them on my bed 'cause i didn't want to wake up that early. :)
We took a bike ride down the jordan river trail and stopped to throw rocks in the river.
We painted the new tea set and colored on Doodle Bear.
We went out to eat at Applebee's. Don't judge us - it was her birthday and she got to pick.
And finally, she got to share her {lovely}cake with all her favorite people in the world.
She ended her birthday yesterday when my dad came in to town and took her birthday shopping. She got home from swim, announced she needed to look fancy and came down dressed in her Christmas dress. She took my dad to walmart in her fancy dress and looked at every toy until she found the perfect thing... Squinkies. And m&m's.
(p.s. i had every intention of taking a picture... i forgot. shocking, i know.)
Happy Birthday to our fancy, sassy, strong, funny, brave, creative, smart, bubbly and energetic princess.
Life wouldn't be nearly as fun without you.
(and yes, if you were counting, there were at least 4 outfit changes that day.)
